First Time Rooter (primarily for tethering), keeping Android Pay

I have never rooted an Android Phone. I have a new 6P, and have lost the ability to tether that I previously had on my Moto X 2014. I understand that I need to enable it in the build.prop file (and to do that, I need to root). However, I am also a regular user of Android Pay., and don't want to lose it.

Having never rooted before, I am looking for the easiest to follow/most foolproof method to root so I can enable tethering without losing Android Pay. I am fairly technical, and have previously jailbroken by iphones. But, since I've never rooted Android, I'm looking for the clearest/most direct path. For the time being, I don't have requirements for other functionality (via rooting) beyond Tethering, however I will begin to explore the rest of the rooting/ROM world after it's working smoothly with Android Pay.

I would appreciate a pointer to the set of steps (as "cookbook" as possible) either on this site or elsewhere that will give the greatest chance of success to a first timer. (From what I read, may have to be a "systemless" root in orderto keep Android pay).

Any and all assists/pointers/comments are appreciated!
P.S. If it makes any difference, I'll be using a Mac for the root.

Crack/Blurry sound on Android 6.0.X+ on some apps (Peregrine, 4G)

I don't know if its only me, but for example when i open the game "Seven Knights", when you click something the sound is really broken, like a crack strong sound and things like that; if this a problem with the 6.0.X Version or the compability app? (On 5.1.X< no sound bug)

android password encrypt os question

I see in the settings there's option for encrypting the phones data itself but I'm looking for something else.

I want to set a password so that while the phone is booting up it will not load in without a password and I want to remove the factory data reset option inside the recovery and make it so that no one is able to reset the phone without a password.

any ideas?

Android Pay is not working as of today on root, systemless or not.

It seems that Android Pay has stopped working for anyone who has root as of now. https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/com...stemless_root/

Pay was working for me last night as it had for weeks. When I heard the rumbles, I checked using safteynet helper and it failed. Just to make sure I tried to pay with it and it failed.

Hopefully this is temporary, but it seems Goggle is being pretty aggressive with patching any issues, so it will be "iffy" at best. At least we don't have to answer anymore, "How can I get Pay to work with my ROM" questions.

Update to android 6 problems

Hi Guys,

I'm glad to see the XDA Developers are still going strong. I used to get loads of very helpful info here from years ago when I had an XDA and subsequently a HTC HD2 (what a great phone that was!). However, times move on and I got a HTC One M8 last year. I was very happy with it until a few days ago. I was offered an update to Android version 6 and foolishly I accepted the update. Once it had installed I found I couldn't switch on WIFI or Bluetooth. Going into settings and pressing the slider to ON, it flicked on for about a second and then back to off. I have tried doing a soft rest, removing the sim card, removing the sd card, switching on and off in airplane mode, rebooting my router, but nothing has helped. The only time I was able to get the slider to stay on was when I attached a USB to back up some info. But, after removing the usb cable and switching off wifi, the same thing was happening again. Does anyone have any ideas of how this could be fixed? I appreciate this a very new update so maybe no one else has encountered this problem. However, perhaps a similar thing happened with a previous update? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

HTC One M8
Android version 6.0
HTC Sense version 7.0
Software number 6.12.161.4
Kernel version 3.4.0-perf-g 708019f and @AAB#1 SMPPREEMPT
Baseband version 1.29.214500021.12G_20.72.4196t.01_f
Build number 6.12.161.4.CL662736 release keys
Android security patch level 2015-12-01

Hope that is sufficient info to be going on with. Look forward to hearing from you. Thanks
Mike :)

Android 5.1 feedback

Sony is releasing a new firmware update for Xperia M5 (30.1.A.1.33) and Xperia M5 Dual (30.1.B.1.33). They now included Android 5.1, probably because Android 5.0 had some bugs and inconsistent performance.

As of now, the update is rolling to all variants, available on XperiFirm, except E5643 (exclusive Brazilian model with TV receiver).

Feedback is welcome.

Can't get out of the TWRP recovery mode on Lenovo k3 note k50 t5 android 5.1

I got my Lenovo k3 note k50 t5 yesteday running on Android 5.1 . I wanted to root it and flash a custom ROM .
I downloader the superSU software on the device.
I flashed the TWRP2.8.6.0_k3note.img in the following steps

1) First I enabled oem unlocking from developer options on the phone
2)Since I use ubuntu , I installed the required android packages
sudo apt-get install android-tools-adb android-tools-fastboot
3)adb reboot bootloader
4)fastboot oem unlock
5)fastboot devices -> was able to recognize the device
6)fastboot flash recovery TWRP2.8.6.0_k3note.img
7)fastboot reboot

Now the problem starts . It boots into the TWRP recovery , throws some error messages , tries to reboot again and the process continues in a loop

I was able to enter into the TWRP recovery options by pressing the volume up/down button and the power key . The backup process failed and when I tries to install the superSU software , it wasb't able to detect it in the SD card . I'd definitely downloaded it . Now I can't get out of the TWRP recovery mode .

I read that the best thing to do is flash the stock ROM for K3 note ?
Where can I get the correct instructions to do so ?

Please help me out of this .
