Help! TWRP recovery and SD card problem.

I just added a new 128gb SD card to my phone.
It recognised it, formatted it, and moved some stuff over after setting up.
This was all done by the system.
The problem is, now in recovery, I can't find my download folder. I don't recognise the folders in recovery when I click install.
I can't find any folders I recognise.
Can someone please help.

Boot from SD card *ONLY* (all partitions) ?

Hi,

My LG G3 d855 has fried, the flash chip looks dead (unable to flash new system partition, when I try the dmesg from the recovery kernel shows error from the flash chip).
So now I'd like to know if it's possible to install everything on the SD card and boot from there. I already made a copy of all the partitions (I can still read from the flash), the /system partition is unusable but all the other ones look good.

Has anyone tried that ? Or does anyone have an idea where I could stick some boot arguments to make it work ?

[SD card problem] External and internal storage

Hello, Now I don't really know what's going on cause i'm going crazy with this phone, eveytime I inserted sd card it asked the partition card and internal sd card and when I chose the external ones I have no idea why it doesn't read my sd card like for example I wanna transfer my file via airdroid or wanna restore an app via Titanium backup or play an NDS game it just read only the internal storage even though it shows on ES file explore (I tried the internal ones and it format my SD card, and S did put all the files back in place but it didn't help, the es file explore in photo was before I put my files back, by the way), my phone just doesn't read my sd card, it's like it just work as a one way storage, when I was using a Sony, this doesn't happens what so ever.
Does anyone knows how to fix this problem of mine, please help me. I took some pictures to make proves :crying::crying:

I'm terribly sorry for my English, English is not my primary language.

SD card issues

Having SD card issues with certain apps, specifically titanium backup and astro file manager. When I try to bakup with titanium backup to the sd card, I get this message: "Batch Backup interrupted: Insufficient free storage space". When I try to copy something to my sd card with astro I get the message: "Device missing label Due to a bug in Android to be able to write to an SD card or usb the device must have a label. . . ."

I am able to backup with TiB using internal storage, and able to copy things to the sd card with the stock file manager.

I have tried unchecking the "mount namespace separation" option in supersu and did not work. I also added made sure to name the card on my laptop, as suggested by the Astro help message. Neither worked.

It has been the same on two g4s, with two different sd cards, one formated exfat and one fat32.

Is anyone able to use an sd card to backup TiB?

Using internal storage now but would rather use sd card because of the size of the backup.

Device is VS986, if that makes a difference.

Accessing SD card that is in the car from android auto

Hi all,

I'm thinking about buying a new car equipped with android auto. This car comes with an SD card slot where you can store music to use with the regular infotainment system. I was wondering if that SD card can also be accessed from android auto? I currently have a 16 GB Nexus 5X so it would be nice if I could use the SD card in the car, while driving.

I'm asking here because I'm sure the sales people don't even know what android auto is, so I don't really trust them.

Thanks.

[DUAL_BOOT]Dual booting an android phone with an extrrnal SD card

So here you come. To read and perform this tutorial, you obviously need a first hand experience on flashing a ROM and/or kernels. Otherwise this tutorial and my efforts to get you a device with two OSes running might end up giving you a bricked device. So, if you're hearing the terms "flashing" or 'kernels' for the first time and thinking it's kinda good food, then bro, just go and taste those first.
Something's to remind before we gonna dig deep into this tutorial->
1> Noone but you will be responsible for what you end up with.
2> The warranty of your device will be voided after this if it isn't already after rooting. For MI users, the good news is that you can reclaim it by just flashing the fastboot ROM for your device.
Enough lectures. Bro let's get to work.
This you'll be needing =>
1> One working Windows PC(because I doesn't know any replacement of booting.exe on any other OS. If you know, then let me).
2> A class 10 memory card ( I recommend 32GB for the spaces)
3> A custom ROM and kernel for your phone(the second os)
4> Any custom CWM based recovery installed.(since TWRP is most popular, I will demonstrate using it. You can use any other you want overall process will be the same)
5> ADB, fastboot and the device drivers (easily found in XDA)
PART 1: MODIFYING THE BOOT

At first, how does your device boots up? What are the partitions called /data and /system? The answer is quite simple. It's your kernel that points out the location from where the OS should be picked up. So for booting into the second OS we need some modifications to it at first.
Search and download bootimg.exe on XDA, I'll post a link later. Create two folders. Name them "Internal OS" and "External OS" respectively. Put the zip file of the OS you're currently using to the first one and the OS you're gonna use on the external storage to the second one. Rename the second OS to originalExternalOS.zip. Extract originalExternalOS.zip. Pick the boot.img file from the root of the extracted folder and move it to a new folder named "boot2". Extract the IMG using bootimg.exe. Navigate to the initrd folder and you will get a file named 'fstab".
Basically it's the file that tells the kernel which partition does the OS resides in.
Open the file in your favourite text editor.

Replace every instance of the first line with the second one:
/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/system => /dev/block/mmcblk1p2
/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/userdata => /dev/block/mmcblk1p3
/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/cache => /dev/block/mmcblk1p4

Save the file without giving any extension to it. Repack it using the same tool. You'll have boot-new.img and boot-old.img. Rename boot-new.img to boot.img and replace the one in the root folder with this. Basically what we're doing here is replacing the old boot.img with the modified one.

For your knowledge, blocks are the partitions of any storage you have on your device. For example, your internal storage is partitioned to near about 30 different blocks each starting with prefix "mmcblk0p". We here just told the kernel to load the OS from the blocks mentioned. We'll be creating these blocks in the external SD card next.

PART 2: PARTITIONING THE SD CARD

Connect your device with the memory card inserted to your PC. If you haven't installed fastboot, ADB, and the drivers, do it now.

READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY

Reboot the device to recovery mode. Type the commands in cmd:

Code:

adb  shell
parted
unit MB
print
quit
umount external_sd

Read and store the minimum and maximum capacity of your card. Since different cards will have different capacities I will point it as variable MIN_SIZE and MAX_SIZE. You'll need to calculate and put the values in the commands. Now type the following commands on cmd:

Code:

parted /dev/block/mmcblk1
rm 1

//START_BLOCK = MAX_SIZE - 5000

mkpartfs primary fat32 MIN_SIZE START_BLOCK

//SYS_START = START_BLOCK+1
//SYS_END = SYS_START + 1200

mkpartfs primary ext2 SYS_START SYS_END

//DATA_START = SYS_END+1

How to install Cyanogenmod 12.1 on Stock Nook Tablet using SD Card?

Hey! I am trying to get Cyanogenmod 12.1 on my stock Nook Tablet. I no longer use the Nook Tablet as often and would like to give it a new life by making it an Android. After reading a ton of articles and forums, I have tried a ton of them, but none of them seem to work successfully. One of them I tried was, Install CM for acclaim on the wiki.cyanogenmod.org website , the process went successfully until I rebooted and it continued to boot me to the regular Nook setup. I think it is because the Clockworkmod Recovery is outdated. I also see that Cyanogenmod's latest recovery is also available, but how do I put it on my SD card successfully. Please provide a step to step guide for me. Thank you! :)

Mate 8 - 3g/4g Sim Card Slot - "Locked"? - Summarized

Firstly let me apologize for duplicating the content of several other topics. This post will intend to summarize the issue in order to provide better visibility to anyone trying to help.

To start off, I have the same problem with my Mate 8.

The Issue
The Huawei Mate 8 has two Sim Card Slots: one supports 3g/4g and the other supports only 2g. That's how it's build.
When you pun in non-China Telecom card into *either* of the slots a message pops up saying that 3g/4g is only supported on China Telecom: https://tj6nvw-bn1306.files.1drv.com...%29.png?psid=1

More Details
  • It is possible to change the active 3g/4g card slot via settings configuration.

  • You can use 2g capabilities in *any* of the physical slots (via configuration above)

  • When you insert 2 sim cards only one of them is active. The device does *not* recognize the second card. It is possible to switch between the two cards, but only one of them can be active.

What is tried already?
  • I've tried and confirm all the items above.

  • Did factory reset.

  • I've loaded the International Software to Mate 8 from this topics

  • The Chinese Telecom message no longer appears on the International Software, however the slot still doesn't work.

  • Did factory reset on the international Software as well.

  • Tried to unlock it via DC-Unlocker - it is not possible. The "Unlock" button is grayed out.

  • The Sim Status in DC-Unlocker is "unlocked" however it shows only one IMEI number, where the phone has 2 IMEI numbers if you check it via *#06#

  • Guys report the same problem with Verizon cards, where Verizon and China Telecom networks are similar.

Thoughts/Suggestions
I talked to the DC Unlocker guys from the support and they advised me it might be from the Firmware. Even I've installed the international one and don't rule out that this might be the root issue of the issue as I don't know the origins of the International software.

Any suggestions?
